Rules of usage

INFORMATION

Rules for the use of the Library and the Photo Archive

Registration

Using the main services of the Library (visiting the Library, reading at the place) is free. The other services may only be used by Clients registered in the Library. At registration name, birth date and address of the Reader, number of the identity card or passport shall be put down. At the same time Reader shall declare in writing to keep the rules of the use of the Library (including rules regarding the compensation for lost or damaged works).
Registration for the employees of MÁV Ltd., their family members, as well as for the employees of libraries, archives and museums is free of charge. The employees of MÁV Group have to pay registration fee too.
Registration fee entitles Readers to use the Library for a period of one year, which commences on the day of the registration and lasts twelve months long.
Students need a valid student card for the registration. For the registration of Clients under the age of 18, guarantor is required. Guarantor shall be the legal representative of the Client.

Services of the Library

Main services of the Library are available to Readers free of charge.

Services offered by the Library are:

Reading at the place, lending of books, copying, scanning. These services shall be requested from the Librarian of the Reference Department in the Reading Room of the Library.
Selective dissemination of information and literary-searching services on the grounds of the special literature-database of the Library are available for Clients.
Reading of documentation at the place
Clients may read documentations in the Reading Room of the Library within the opening hours.

Lending of Books
Deadline of lending: one month
Clients may take away maximum 5 books on one occasion.
Handbooks and books published before 1950 are not available for lending!

Periodicals

Periodicals are not available for lending, only articles may be copied.
Copying of periodicals published before 1950 is not possible!

Translations

Deadline of lending: one month
Clients may take away maximum 5 translations.

Reports on the researches of the Development and Experimental Institute of MÁV Ltd.
Deadline of lending: two weeks
Reports may be taken away only by the employees of MÁV Ltd. and MÁV Group.
Other Clients may read the reports only at the place.

UIC leaflets

Deadline of lending: two weeks
Leaflets may be taken away only by the employees of MÁV.
Clients may take away maximum 5 leaflets on one occasion.

ERRI reports

Deadline of lending: one month
Clients may take away maximum 5 reports on one occasion.

CD-ROMs

Deadline of lending: two weeks
Clients may take away maximum 2 CD-ROMs on one occasion.

Prior to the due date, excepting CD-ROMs, lending may be prolonged 3 times, if the document concerned is not reserved. Further prolongation may be allowed if Client shows the borrowed document.
If the required document is borrowed by somebody else, Librarian, on request, will put it on the waiting list, and Client will be given a notice of the return of the document.
Lending time of CD-ROMs may not be prolonged. If Client is in default to return the CD ROMs, he/she has to pay a fine.

Responsibility of the Client:

  • Client is responsible for handling documents carefully and bears financial responsibility for them.
  • Borrower shall acknowledge the borrowing of documents by a signature on the borrower's ticket. Librarian shall acknowledge the returning of the borrowed document by crossing the borrower's ticket and by writing the date on the accompanying card of the document. Simultaneously, arrival of a document shall be registered on the computer too.
  • Client has to pay expenses of the renovation of a document damaged during the lending time.
  • Client is obliged to bring the loss of the document to the notice of the Library. The Library will decide the modes of replacement of the lost document as follows:
  • If the lost document is procurable, Client is obliged to deliver an unobjectionable issue of the same edition to the Library within one month.
  • If original issue is not procurable, Client is obliged to deliver a copy of the borrowed document to the Library.
  • In other cases it is the Library which sets the amount of damages, taking into consideration the antique value of the document concerned.
  • Head of the Library may exclude those from borrowing documents for a certain time or if well founded once for all, who serially break the Rules for the Use of the Library.
  • After the termination of the lending time, Client gets a notice from the Library to return back the borrowed document(s). Should the Client in spite of the warning not return the borrowed document(s) Library would bring a civil legal action for damages against Client..


Rule of copying and scanning of documents:

Copying of documents is available for the employees and pensioners of MÁV free of charge, but students, other pensioners, employees of MÁV Ltds. and those who have income have to pay compensation.
Scanning of documents of the Library is possible on CDs provided by the Library or on CDs in original packing brought by Client, against paying a compensation fee.

Other rules:

  • No bag may be taken into the Reading room. Books may be taken in only with the permission of the Librarian.
  • Reference Library may be used without restrictions, but putting back of documents into their places is the task of the Librarians.
  • Smoking and using of open fire in the Library is forbidden.


Usage of the Photo Archive:

Photo Archive in the Documentation Centre and Library of MÁV is not public.
Usage of the Photo Archive collection by non-MÁV employees is subject to a permission of the Head of the Documentation Centre, who may give permission after individual judgment taking into account the interests of MÁV.
